Yooka-Laylee: Official Discussion Thread

Post by BanjosBackpack » Thu May 26, 2016 2:25 am

I am so beyond stoked that Playtonic Games is making great progress on Yooka-Laylee. As you can tell from my username, I am a huge Banjo-Kazooie fan. The idea that a spiritual successor to that franchise is releasing for the Wii U within the year's time is just mind-blowing. I was there with the kickstarter from the literal moment of it's execution and I watched it grow, literally on day one as it just kept going and going. There's an image from that kickstarter still hanging up in my cubicle.

The team just released a ton of new content and information about it. I hope we can discuss the game here leading up to, and beyond it's release. I've absolutely got to start things off with this amazing shot from their official promotional materials…

Looking forward to this as well. I like how regular Playtonic has been with the updates as well.

Didn't back it on Kickstarter but I will definitely buy it when it comes out.

One of these likes to my Twitter feed was from Playtonic Games themselves.

Definitely looking forward to this game. We haven't seen a good 3D platformer (in the Mario 64/Banjo-Kazooie style collectathon sense) in a while now.

Also, find it amusing how obvious the references to Rare and Microsoft are in the storyline. It's like a perfect analogy for the Rare buyout, down to the company turning sides and the new owner trying to convert fiction to pure profit.

Well I'm sure most of the Rare guys in Playtonic are pretty sad and bitter that MS bought Rare and then proceeded to suck the life blood out of the company like some horrible vampire.

You're probably right Chris. I wouldn't say though 'bitter'. Perhaps just disappointed. I'm sure they're happy now while they've been bitter once upon a time.

I wouldn't say it's that negative. More of an affectionate reference to the buyout and its issues that some sort of 'Microsoft are the devil' kind. Otherwise there wouldn't be a version of Yooka-Laylee for the Xbox One.
